The Peppercanister Gallery presents its annual end-of-year group show featuring a broad selection of contemporary paintings, drawings, sculpture, original prints and jewellery by artists of distinction and achievement. This year’s exhibition will feature an attractive range of small works by gallery artists Liam Belton RHA, Breon O’Casey and Neil Shawcross RUA, RHA. Other highlights include an energetic mixed media work by Basil Blackshaw, HRHA, RUA, one of Ireland’s most distinguished artists, and two vibrant small canvases by renowned British painter Albert Irvin RA, who recently enjoyed a successful third solo exhibition at the gallery. The gallery is delighted to feature for the first time new paintings by esteemed artists John Bellany CBE, RA, HRSA and Hughie O’Donoghue.
Also included in this show will be a fine selection of new works by Donegal-based artist Jacinta Feeney, alongside works of exceptional quality by gallery artists Robert Janz and Anne Donnelly. The show will also include a number of exquisite still lifes by Peter Collis RHA, Alexey Krasnovsky and highly-regarded Northern artist Brian Ballard, RUA, who will hold his second solo exhibition at the Peppercanister in 2009. Ann Griffin-Bernstorff will exhibit Clowns of the Sun, one of her highly imaginative and idiosyncratic paintings.
There will be a fine selection of limited edition prints available for purchase from Breon O’Casey, Albert Irvin RA and Marie-Louise Martin.
There will also be a collection of high quality recent works by younger gallery artists such as Makiko Nakamura, Graham Gingles RUA, Ruth McHugh and Sarah Longley who will open the Gallery programme for 2009 with a series of Italian paintings. This will be Sarah’s fifth one-person show at the gallery and a sense of place will be the pervading theme of the exhibition. The show will also include a number of delicate, abstract gouaches by Irish-born, New York based artist Liam Roberts, who held a very exciting and successful first solo-exhibition at the gallery in June 2008. For the first time, the gallery will also exhibit the work of English-born artist Andrew Vickery, who now divides his time between Dublin and Berlin. Andrew has held recent solo exhibitions at the RHA and the Douglas Hyde Gallery. His installation at the Douglas Hyde Gallery now resides in the collection of the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin.
The Christmas Show also features marble sculptures by Maureen Bushe, a delicate bronze bird by Breon O’Casey, a stunning Golden Conker by Sonja Landweer and fragile, mixed-media sculptures by Robert Janz. Netherlands-based sculptor Deirdre McLoughlin, renowned for the spare, elegant language of her work in clay, will exhibit some of her recent creations in bronze.

The Private View will take place on Wednesday 3rd December 2008 between 5.30 and 7.30pm. The exhibition will open for public viewing from Thursday 4th December to Tuesday 23rd December 2008. The Gallery will re-open in the New Year on Monday 5th January 2009. All works are available for purchase prior to the opening of the exhibition.
